WHAT IS SWAMP BASE?
Louisiana Swamp Base is a national conservation and high adventure recreation program created in 2010 by the Evangeline Area Council, Boy Scouts of America to commemorate the Centennial of Scouting while also making a 100 year commitment to annually immerse thousands of youth in the environment and culture of the Atchafalaya Swamp.

Each year Swamp Base focuses on improving the quality and experience of the Atchafalaya Swamp through environmental stewardship efforts and high adventure programs that instill pride and ownership in the area by allowing youth to experience the swamp firsthand.

Started in the summer of 2013, Swamp Base's high adventure treks offer 6 day/6 night paddling trips through the Atchafalaya Swamp. Modeled from the Boy Scouts of America’s four National High Adventure camps and bases (Philmont Scout Ranch, Northern Tier, the Florida Sea Base, and the Summit Bechtel Reserve), Swamp Base joins the tradition of these pre-existing high adventure programs by offering a premier camping and paddling adventure opportunity for youth serving organizations from across America.

Through immersive adventure experiences and conservation activities in the swamp, Swamp Base participants will find a greater understanding, appreciation, and love for swamp wildernesses.

McGee's Swamp Tours supports the efforts of Swamp Base by further sharing the Atchafalaya Swamp with groups and individuals beyond Scouting.
McGee's Swamp Tours immerses guests from around the world into Louisiana's beautiful, vast, and mysterious Atchafalaya Swamp by offering swamp tours and airboat rides that are entertaining, eco-sensitive and educational.

Each year, McGee's hosts thousands of travelers to the area, schools from across the region for field trips into the swamp, as well as families for special events, all of which foster a deeper connection to the swamp environment.
